Hello, my name is Matthew, and this is my story.
I grew up in the small town of Decatur, Indiana. I was an average kid; however, unlike many other kids my age, I never had the opportunity to go to school. Because of this, growing up, I felt that I lacked many skills expected of someone my age, and it made me doubt that I could do what I wanted to do, which was go to college and pursue a career in science.
I am currently still taking classes at The Literacy Alliance. I hope I pass the high school equivalency (HSE) test soon and enroll in Ivy Tech. I want to study biology because I have always wanted to have a career in a science field. After Ivy Tech, I hope to go to university to obtain a higher degree in my chosen field.
“Attending class at The Literacy Alliance has given me confidence that I didn’t think I would ever have. I see now that I can go to college, get my degree, and have a pathway forward.”

Update: Matthew passed the HiSet exam in early January 2022 and earned his high school equivalency diploma!
