My name is Brianna. I am 27 years old. I was born in New York and moved to Indiana when I was ten years old. I now live in Fort Wayne. I have two children. I also had a 14-month-old son who passed away in 2016. I have three sisters and had a brother who passed away when he was 19 years old. My mother passed away in November 2018. I am a recovering IV drug user. I have been clean since July 7th of 2019.
I came to The Literacy Alliance to get my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma to go to college to become a nurse. My past education experience has not been that great, honestly. I was homeschooled until I was in 11th grade. My mother did not teach us anything when she homeschooled us, so I found myself behind everyone else when I went to public school. I completed 11thgrade, then dropped out because it was tough being so far behind, and I became pregnant with my oldest son.
My experience with The Literacy Alliance has been amazing so far. In the few short weeks, I have been here, I have learned a lot. The tutors are wonderful and helpful. Mrs. Amy is amazing and helpful. The students are all incredibly supportive of one another. It is a remarkable program, and I am blessed to be a part of it.
“My future goal is to go to nursing school and become a registered nurse to have a stable income and help other people. It is my dream job. I also want to do something with my life that have made my brother, son, and mother proud.”
My future goal is to go to nursing school and become a registered nurse to have a stable income and help other people. It is my dream job. I also want to do something with my life that would have made my brother, son, and mother proud.
I am so thankful for this opportunity and would strongly recommend The Literacy Alliance to anyone wanting their HSE. Even if you do not go to college, it is an excellent opportunity for future jobs. It boosts your self-confidence as well.
Update: Brianna finished the program and passed the HSE exam in late April 2021! We are all incredibly proud of her achievement and can’t wait to see what she will accomplish next!
