How long have you been volunteering with TLA?
Since February of 2022.
Why did you decide to volunteer at TLA?
I am a retired math teacher. I was talking to a former student, and they mentioned The Literacy Alliance and how they thought it would be a perfect fit for me. I filled out an application and was accepted.
What has been the best part of your experience so far?
By far, the people I get to work with. The staff and students are AWESOME! The laughter and encouragement are the best! Seeing them earn their GEDs and getting to celebrate with them is unbelievable.
Do you have a favorite volunteer role/task with our organization?
Mainly, I am the math go-to person. As I stated, almost every night, math is awesome!
What have you learned about yourself and/or others through volunteering at The Literacy Alliance?
People are so grateful for any help given to them. They want to succeed and really work hard to do so.
What would you say if you were to encourage someone else to volunteer with our organization?
There isn’t a better place to volunteer!
What is one of your favorite books you would suggest others to read?

I advise anyone reading this not to give up; it may not be easy, but it is worth it... If no one believes in you, believe in yourself.
