Student Spotlight: Cheyenne

Student Spotlight

My name is Cheyenne, and I am married with two wonderful children. School was never something I enjoyed, so I left at 16. However, I have always loved reading and learning new things that once seemed out of reach. I discovered The Literacy Alliance through Family Centered Services, and it has truly changed my life.

Before joining the program, I worked at a gas station, but I made the decision to quit and focus on my education. I knew that earning my diploma would open doors for me and allow me to build a better future for my family.

One of the biggest surprises since starting this journey has been how much I’ve learned—especially in algebra. Having one-on-one support from a math teacher has helped me grasp concepts I never thought I’d understand. My practice test scores have improved significantly, and I recently took the math portion of the GED. For the first time, I feel truly confident in my abilities.

This program has expanded my horizons and given me the tools I need to succeed. Earning my diploma means I can better support my husband and children while pursuing new opportunities for myself.

Update:
On December 17, 2024, I passed my final math test and officially earned my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma—just in time for Christmas! Now, I’m ready to start my next adventure at Ivy Tech. Thanks to the connections I made through The Literacy Alliance, I am excited to enroll in their medical coding program and take the next step toward a fulfilling career.
