Hser Hser, learned about The Literacy Alliance programs through a friend who was already in class. She came to improve her English language skills and achieve her high school equivalency (HSE) diploma. “I wanted to read better because I have a child who is three and want to be able to read and help them in school.”
“It was hard when I first started, but now I’m used to classes, I know how they work. It’s not as hard now. It’s getting easier over time.” Since starting the program, Hser Hser has learned new skills, improved her vocabulary and is more comfortable reading books and newspapers.
When asked what she would tell a prospective student, Hser Hser said, “The program is free. I have a friend who wanted to join, but she didn’t know where to start. I told her to start coming to TLA.”
