The teachers here are fantastic and make learning enjoyable. While I’m excited to graduate soon, I know I will miss the class.
The Literacy Alliance offices will be closed, and no classes will be held from Tuesday, December 24, 2024, through Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Regular office hours and Project Graduate (GED/HSE) classes will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Project Connect (ELL) classes will restart on Monday, January 6, 2025. From our families to yours, have a safe and joyful holiday season!
How long have you been volunteering with TLA?
I started volunteering in November 2023, though I also volunteered many years ago when TLA was still known as the Three Rivers Literacy Alliance.
Why did you decide to volunteer at TLA?
I had some extra time and enjoy working with adults who are striving to improve their situations.
What has been the best part of your experience so far?
Seeing the progress made by the person I’m currently working with.
Do you have a favorite volunteer role/task with our organization?
I prefer one-on-one tutoring.
What have you learned about yourself and others through volunteering at The Literacy Alliance?
I’ve been reminded that learning is a lifelong endeavor, and it’s never too late to set new goals for yourself.
What would you say to encourage someone else to volunteer with our organization?
Give it a try! Volunteering with The Literacy Alliance is incredibly rewarding. You’ll meet great people and be well supported by the staff.
What is one of your favorite books you would recommend to others?
