Student Story: DeAngelo

Student Spotlight

TLA Graduate DeAngelo

My name is DeAngelo. I’m 36 years old, and I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I’m a father to five children, and I work in the copper wire industry.

I came to The Literacy Alliance to show my two oldest children that it’s not hard to succeed as long as you apply yourself, and to prove to myself that I could earn my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma. It was a great experience. The teachers and tutors are easy-going and patient, and they make the process so much easier.

I would recommend The Literacy Alliance to anyone trying to further their education. Like I said, the teachers and tutors made it so much easier for me to breeze through. Even at my age, they helped me remember everything I thought I had forgotten.

My next step is to move into a film career, and they helped me start that process too. I thought their job was done once I earned my HSE, but no, they’re still helping me along the way. I’m extremely thankful for that.

I believe anyone who puts in the effort and believes in themselves can achieve anything. That’s the mindset that got me through this. I want to thank every single staff member at The Literacy Alliance for the experience, and I can’t wait for this next step in my journey. I expect nothing but greatness from myself.
