By far, the people I get to work with. The staff and students are AWESOME! The laughter and encouragement are the best!

Hello, I’m Tyonna, a 21-year-old Capricorn. I was born and raised in Indiana with my four older brothers. I do not have any children, but my boyfriend, who I have been with for almost three years, has a 6-year-old daughter who I love like my own. I am currently employed at an Amazon warehouse until I start college.
My mom passed away in 2020, the year I was supposed to graduate; her biggest dream and goal for me was to graduate high school and go to college. With everything that had happened, I ended up dropping out. Three years later, I decided to return to school, continue my education, and pursue the career I’ve always wanted. That’s when I found The Literacy Alliance. I’ve almost accomplished the goal my mom and I wanted for myself: to get a diploma and continue my education in college.
My experience at The Literacy Alliance has been great, honestly. My teacher, Mrs. Amy, has been so patient and sweet. She ensures all her students understand what they are learning, and the same goes for the tutors who take time out of their day to come and help us.
My goal after I get my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma is to get into a community college and eventually become an RN.
I advise anyone reading this not to give up; it may not be easy, but it is worth it in the long run. If no one believes in you, believe in yourself. Being able to say you got your diploma, especially after no one believed in you, will be amazing. Just take your time and ask as many questions as you can and need.
Update: Tyonna achieved her first goal and received her HSE diploma in mid-November 2023! We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!

I didn’t attend high school, and later, I started online classes but fell behind. Attending The Literacy Alliance has given me the confidence...
