Student Spotlight: Scotty

Student Spotlight

TLA Graduate Scotty

Hello, my name is Scotty. I’m 20 years old, and I’m originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Life hasn’t always been easy—I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs—but every chapter has brought me to where I am today.

I came to The Literacy Alliance because I was ready for a real change. School had been tough in the past. I didn’t always have the support I needed, or the right mindset to succeed. But deep down, I always believed I could be more. Coming to The Literacy Alliance helped me take control of my education—and, for the first time, believe in my potential.

My experience here has truly been life-changing. The support, encouragement, and patience I’ve received from Amy, Meghan, Trevor, and everyone else at TLA has made all the difference. I’ve learned more than just academics—I’ve learned to believe in myself, to stay consistent, and to keep moving forward.

Looking ahead, I’ve got big plans. I want to enroll in Ivy Tech’s HVAC trade program. College wasn’t something I ever thought about before, but now I know I’m on the right path.

If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that it’s never too late to start over or reach for more. So, if you’re reading this, my advice is simple: don’t give up on yourself. The road may be tough, but it’s always worth it. I’m so grateful to everyone at The Literacy Alliance for being part of my story.
