My name is Julia (aka Giggles, Mouse, Beanhead). I grew up in wild and wonderful West Virginia and lived there for twenty-five years. I am thirty-eight years old and have four siblings: one brother and three sisters.
I came to The Literacy Alliance with encouragement from my caseworker and counselor. I needed to do something different in my life. My past school was very different from The Literacy Alliance. I went to a Mennonite private school in West Virginia and graduated after eighth grade.
My experience at The Literacy Alliance has been an excellent experience for me, one like I have never had before. I had a lot of fear before coming to The Literacy Alliance, but once I stepped into the classroom, it was no big deal. Amy is an awesome teacher; she is the best teacher that I have ever had. I have learned so much.
My plans are to volunteer for a while, and in the meantime, look for a job with my interests in the medical field.
I am very grateful to The Literacy Alliance staff for making this possible. Without you, I would not be the person that I am today. Thank you! I had no option but to look forward; I needed to do this. To the students of the Literacy Alliance, you can do this! Don’t let fear hold you back.
I am looking forward to a bright future.
