If you want to help someone, whether a child or adult, go for it. The Literacy Alliance definitely could use your help with the growing number of students.
Hello, my name is Ashton, and I’m 19. I’m from Angola. I have two sisters on my mom’s side and two sisters and one brother on my dad’s side. I’m not married, but a girl was the one who forced me to go out (she is very, very loving, she didn’t force me to do anything I didn’t want to do) and do something, so I just threw in my app to The Literacy Alliance (TLA). I don’t have a job, but I have applied for a lot of tech stuff. None of them got back to me… Maybe it’ll be different if I apply again.
I saw TLA online. My experience with school was terrible because they told me I wouldn’t graduate, would be a failure, and so much more; what hurt the most was getting said that from a teacher. I recently got my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma, which is good because now I have something. I wanted an HSE so I can look forward to something in life, or if something comes up, I can try and do it.
My experience at TLA was very nice and upfront. I thought it might take me over a month or two, but nope, they got me out within four weeks, and I went to class for three weeks. It wasn’t easy to take the test because you had to go to a building for every test. Thankfully you can schedule more than one per day, which for me, worked out well.
In five years, I will see myself far away from here and doing something in the tech field with my girlfriend (who might be my wife by then) and our doggie and three cats. If you didn’t finish high school, I recommend you do so at The Literacy Alliance. With an HSE, you can get just about any job you want. Thank you, TLA people, for your advice and support in getting my HSE so fast.

I want to see others succeed in their goals and overcome their obstacles. Not everyone has it so simple; many things...
