Meet Nicholas

My name is Nicholas. I am from a small town and have a small family. There’s only my brother and me. I recently started The Literacy Alliance for the second time after dropping out of school in my junior year of high school. The whole school thing wasn’t for me. I had to drop out to care for my brother because my mom wasn’t around much then. I tried The Literacy Alliance before, back in 2015. I took the HSE test and passed all but three subjects.

I’m currently attending The Literacy Alliance once again in 2020. Although a lot has changed from then until now, it is a change for the good. If you put your mind to something in class, you will achieve higher and better outcomes.

I am smart and brave enough to finish it, which is a huge milestone. I want to prove to my wife and daughter that their husband and dad can complete this without giving up. If I can do it years after leaving school, so could any of you.

The Literacy Alliance has helped me through some family issues and has never given up on me. The class is short, only three hours. The teachers make it fun and make the time go by quickly. I highly recommend TLA. They even help you find a better job or find a job if you’re in need. The school is not a school to be exact; they try to make it as if you’re home. The staff at TLA tries to make it as comfortable as possible. For instance, the school is only three days long, spread over a week. You need to show up, pay attention, and participate in the whole class. And lastly, do what is expected of you and do what is asked of you. You need to show up, do your work, and put effort into everything you do at home, in the classroom, and in any way you can, but you will be rewarded for everything you do.

After I graduate, I plan to attend college, something I’ve never thought of or said before. I plan on at least getting my associate degree. I’ve always thought of myself as a quitter or something along those lines, but not this time; I deserve it, and it is what I want. I am smart and brave enough to finish it, which is a huge milestone. Nicholas achieved his first goal and obtained his high school equivalency diploma. We can’t wait to see what he will accomplish next!
