Rosemary began volunteering as a tutor at The Literacy Alliance in January of 2019. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Rosemary has three grown children and a 10-year-old grandson who has been a reader since the age of 2!
She loves the 1-on-1 connection that being a tutor for The Literacy Alliance allows. Focusing on math and history, Rosemary is passionate about the TLA mission and likes helping others increase their comprehension skills and learn to be a better reader. “I am learning how to present basic phonics and reading skills to an adult learner. Also, I am meeting a single student as a whole person. Tutoring has improved my skill as an ‘oral dictionary’ immensely!”
Her advice for future tutors for the Literacy Alliance: “Just do it. Believe in your ability and rely on The Literacy Alliance staff for support materials and ideas.”

I started this journey back in 2006; my oldest was four at the time. I enrolled in classes and started going to the Fellowship Church.
