Volunteer Spotlight: Beth

Volunteer Spotlight

TLA Volunteer: Beth

Joining us immediately after retirement, Beth knew she wanted to stay involved with children. As a former resource teacher, she has been a great asset to the Project Reads program. She started out as a volunteer during the year spent online and happily continued as we returned to face-to-face tutoring. This year, Beth has taken on a new role as site facilitator and is a great leader in the program.

“It’s a very small time commitment, and you get to build a relationship with a child and know that you’re doing something that’s helping them.”

Being able to tutor students one to one has been most enjoyable for her. Through building a relationship with her student, she has witnessed progress and found that to be the best part of this endeavor. “It’s a very small time commitment, and you get to build a relationship with a child and know that you’re doing something that’s helping them.” Beth feels it is essential to relax and enjoy the volunteer work without putting pressure on yourself. The connection with the student is the most important element.
