Belle came to The Literacy Alliance unsure about what career she wanted to pursue but knowing she had a passion for helping others. Living quite a distance away, she committed to volunteering once a week and walked away with so much. Here is her story:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at TLA. I started volunteering in June 2021. At that time, I was a full-time delivery driver trying to figure out which path I wanted to take in college. I was craving to be involved in an organization I could devote time, effort, and ultimately my heart. TLA became that. I witnessed the growth in myself— my English skills, communication skills, and my inherent need to encourage anybody to try their best to improve. I was so excited to tell my friends and family that I was making a difference in others’ lives by devoting two hours a week to the pre-HSE class. I watched the growth in the students as well, and I could draw so much inspiration from that alone. What a journey it’s been! My experience volunteering with TLA gave me a better glimpse into what I want for my future: I am now going to school for an English degree.”

Belle has had to step away from tutoring with increased responsibilities between a new part-time job, college classes, and pursuing a motorcycle license. We wish her the very best and truly appreciate her time here. If you’re interested in an experience like Belle’s, contact Nicole at (260) 423-0008 or visit literacyalliance.org/volunteer.
