Student Spotlight: Tony

Student Spotlight

Tony

My name is Tony. I have three kids and three grandchildren. I grew up in Decatur with a brother and sister. I worked at an ice cream manufacturer for 25 years until they closed the plant. I drove a forklift, ran machines, and worked as a leader during my time at the plant. I lost my job when the company closed and needed to earn my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma to get a better job.

“I want a good job I can retire from and not depend on anyone else. With the help of The Literacy Alliance, I know I can get a better job.”

I want a good job I can retire from and not depend on anyone else. With the help of The Literacy Alliance, I know I can get a better job. After I graduate, I plan to attend Ivy Tech and enroll in the HVAC program. My son works in HVAC now.

We are thrilled to announce that Tony passed his HSE exam in mid-March 2022! We can’t wait to see what he will accomplish next!
