Student Spotlight: Lizbeth

Student Spotlight

Lizbeth

My name is Lizbeth. I was born in Mexico City and raised in southern California. I was brought to the U.S. as a child in 1986 at the age of four. I have three amazing children and a nephew who is like one of my own. I have been married to my husband for ten wonderful years. My family loves sports; football, soccer, and baseball are our favorites.

I decided to come to The Literacy Alliance to better myself. A friend of mine told me about the program and encouraged me to sign up. Obtaining my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma is very important to me. I must teach my children that everything is possible, no matter what. I want to make them and my family proud and show myself that I can do this.

There are a lot of things that I want and will learn while going through this program. One of my favorites is math, and one of my least favorites is language, but everything is important to me. I am also learning many skills that will be very helpful for me in the future – such as work ethic and language. Some of these things may be difficult, but it is nothing that I cannot overcome.

“Obtaining my HSE diploma is going to open many doors in my future. It is going to help me go to college and find a great job that I will enjoy. I know that anything I put my mind to is possible.”

My dream does not end when I achieve my goal of getting my diploma. As soon as I pass, I want to attend college. I am considering a program that teaches me how to help children in need: children that are less fortunate and get in trouble or children that fall into the foster care system.

Obtaining my HSE diploma is going to open many doors in my future. It is going to help me go to college and find a great job that I will enjoy. I know that anything I put my mind to is possible.
