I came to The Literacy Alliance to get a start on my future. As a senior in high school, I got pregnant, which took a toll...
A friend mentioned volunteering with Project Reads four years ago, and Steve jumped in. After retiring, he had time on his hands and wanted a worthy cause to break up the time. Working with kids was a brand-new experience, but he thought his talkative personality would fit right in, and it has.
“To be able to give an hour to a child and make such a difference in their life is a simple thing.”
Steve says to “jump in with both feet and never look back.” To be able to give an hour to a child and make such a difference in their life is a simple thing. According to Steve, the kids come in excited, and you can tell “they want to learn.” The need for kids to have that extra person in their lives that cares and gives them attention is evident.
To join Steve and make a difference in a child’s life, click here to email Nicole or call (260) 423-0008. We need more than 150 volunteers to help with the Project Reads program in the coming school year!
