Why did you decide to volunteer at The Literacy Alliance?
I was looking for a way to give back to the community, and I stumbled across The Literacy Alliance on VolunteerMatch.org. It sounded interesting, and soon after that, I met with Lizzy about the various opportunities available.
What has been the best part of your experience so far?
I’ve found it gratifying when you work with someone very motivated to change their situation in life. You play a small part in helping them to get where they’d like to be.
“I believe that everyone able should give back in some form or another, and this is a very easy way to do just that. One hour a week is a small amount of time to give up to help someone better themselves. ”
Why should others volunteer?
I believe that everyone able should give back in some form or another, and this is a very easy way to do just that. One hour a week is a small amount of time to give up to help someone better themselves. I’m thrilled that I stumbled across The Literacy Alliance when I did.
What advice would you give a new volunteer?
First off, I would say congratulations on taking the initiative to volunteer. I think that is the biggest step someone would take. Just have an attitude of encouragement; sometimes, some kind words or positive reinforcement can go a long way.
Do you have time to invest in your community? The Literacy Alliance has volunteer opportunities in Allen, Adams, and Wells counties. Give us a call at (260) 426-7323 or visit literacyalliance.org/volunteer.
