Student Spotlight: Gennah

Student Spotlight

Hi! My Name is Gennah. I am a 24-year-old from Fort Wayne. The second eldest of 6 and the first to drop out, leading many of my siblings to follow in my footsteps, I took the initiative to re-enroll in school and get my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma through The Literacy Alliance!

Beyond furthering my education and being a better role model for my siblings, another major driving point for me earning my HSE was to obtain eligibility for The US Army. Before joining, I would like to set up my civilian life so that when the time comes to transition out of the service, I am beyond prepared. After graduation, I plan to get my registered behavior technician (RBT) certificate validated and help kids who struggle behaviorally and socially.

My advice for any future students (or anyone thinking of joining) is to do it! The time and energy spent on furthering your education will be so worth it.

I have accomplished many of my goals while attending classes at The Literacy Alliance. My first was to understand mathematics. Much of my youth was spent struggling with such trivial units that by the time I started to catch on, the class began moving on. The staff, teachers, and tutors of The Literacy Alliance make it their personal mission to break down anything you may struggle with and provide an atmosphere that is fun to learn in.

My advice for any future students (or anyone thinking of joining) is DO IT! The time and energy spent on furthering your education will be SO worth it. No matter how long ago you dropped out or how young you are, if you plan on graduating early, The Literacy Alliance will make sure that the goals you’ve set for yourself will be achieved!
