Student Spotlight: Christian

Hi, my name is Christian, and I am 31 years old. I have three brothers and two sisters. I have five children: 3 boys and two girls. The oldest is 13, and the youngest is 3. I have worked many jobs and had many occupations. So, some would say I am a “jack-of-all-trades but a master of none.” However, I believe a jack-of-all-trades is better than a master of just one!

Recently, I wanted to hone in on a certain area of school and get a degree or certification. Growing up, I was in school physically, but my mind and heart were not. Being in 11th grade with only 11 credits wouldn’t get me that diploma. When I first stepped into the classroom at The Literacy Alliance, I was nervous, scared, and, honestly, afraid to take this step. But when I got my pre-test results, I almost cried. All my scores showed “well prepared” to test! Coming to TLA has helped push me to continue moving forward with my goal of getting that degree and/or certification. I was welcomed into the class at The Literacy Alliance with love, compassion, open arms, and smiles.

After I get my high school equivalency (HSE) diploma, I want to further my knowledge by enrolling at Ivy Tech or Purdue Fort Wayne. Getting my diploma will be one of my biggest accomplishments.

I hope my story will give the next scared individual the courage and willpower to take this great leap. It is scary but oh so worth it. Having the wonderful and dedicated instructors at TLA has helped me so much on this journey. I will obtain my HSE, and so can you if you choose to; the choice is yours!
