Brian Thomas
Brian began volunteering at The Literacy Alliance in 2021 as a reading tutor, meeting at the Aboite branch of the Allen County Public Library with a learner who loved books about Snoopy. He then moved into the morning Project Graduate classroom, where he relearned math while helping others do the same. Brian decided he couldn’t get enough of The Literacy Alliance, so he applied for and was offered the administrative coordinator position in July of 2022.
Brian’s background in radio broadcasting and customer service makes him the ideal first point of contact and bridge between those with lots of questions and concerns about their educational future and The Literacy Alliance’s programs. Having raised four loud and rambunctious children alongside Garsy, to whom he’s been married for 30+ years, he has honed the fine arts of patience and compassion. He also still uses subtitles when he watches television.
Brian strongly believes that any educational goal can be achieved with the helping hand of a kind teacher and that the entire Lord of the Rings movie trilogy should be watched at least once every year, typically around Christmas if possible. His favorite novel is Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
